Police are investigating after human remains were found bu*ried in the backyard of a Florida home Wednesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The remains were found at a home located on Sunny Acres Drive East in Jacksonville around 6:48 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
Two feet were seen “sticking up out of the ground” when officers arrived at the home.
The owner of the home was reportedly doing yard work when he discovered “toes sticking out of the ground,” a woman who was helping the man said.
“We were working inside the house, and then the owner came to us and said, ‘Hey, there is something here. We have to call 911.’ I said, ‘OK.’ I was shook,” the woman, who did not want to be identified, Said.
The woman told News4Jax that the feet appeared to be black, most likely from decomposing.
“They were all black and stuff. But I guess that was from decomposing,” the woman said. “I just hope that everything gets solved. My reaction to this is just craziness. I would never expect this, especially at a house that I am working at.”
“Due to the time of day, JSO maintained security of the residence throughout the night,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
JSO officers and detectives are currently on the scene while the remains are being extricated. The incident will be pending until the Medical Examiner’s Office can determine the cause of d*eath.
