A woman who was reported missing after going to a hurricane shelter on Tuesday was found de*ad inside a submerged vehicle in Pasco County.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the 80-year-old woman was last seen walking into Challenger K-8 school in Spring Hill, which was operating as a shelter ahead of Hurricane Milton’s landfall.

Shelter staff told authorities that they had no record of the victim checking in.

Before she drove to the shelter, neighbors described her as “confused,” telling deputies she left once to the shelter, but came back home because she was lost. The woman also mentioned driving to Tennessee “to be with her family.”

On Sunday, officials located the woman inside her car, which was found in a body of water in Pasco County.

“Sheriff Al Nienhuis and the men and women of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office send our condolences to Ms. Bossard’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the sheriff’s office said.
