A 105-year-old woman in Florida is without her home after surviving a tornado.

Jane Huston had lived in her home on her own for years. She was inside when a tornado came through and destroyed it.

Rylee Huston is Jane Houston’s great-grandson. He said he calls her his “mama.”

“She is a strong, independent, stubborn woman,” he said. “She is amazing.”

Jane Huston had just gone into her bathroom when the tornado struck.

“I can’t imagine her being in the bathroom, just getting the roof ripped off the house and the other wall slamming into the door,” Rylee Huston said.

When the ordeal was over, Jane Huston said it was probably the scariest time of her life.

Neighbors found her in the rubble and were able to pull her to safety.

Jane Huston needed surgery for a foot injury. She also had a bruised back.

“Miracle, luck, God. That’s the best as I can really put it,” Rylee Huston said.

As Jane Huston continues to recover in the hospital, her neighbors are making sure she knows she is not alone. They’ve collected supplies she may need, including shampoo, toothpaste, clothes, blankets and cleaning supplies.

They are also helping her research for new housing.

“She’s our neighbor. We’re inspired by her miraculous story of survival and we just want to be a part of rebuilding her life,” Kelly Grandinetti, part of the Rocky Point Tornado Relief Group, said.

Rylee Huston said he and his great-grandmother have been overwhelmed by the support from the community.

He said she should be starting rehab for her injuries and should be released from the hospital soon.

While she will need around-the-clock support for a while, Rylee Huston said his great-grandmother is expecting to be living independently once again.

Her family has set up a GoFundMe page as she makes her recovery.
