Jesse Lewis was born on June 30, 2006 in Danbury, Connecticut. Tragically, he died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting at the age of six. Despite his young age, Jesse displayed incredible bravery during the attack. While reloading his weapon, the shooter urged his classmates to flee, putting his own life in danger to save theirs. He died a hero’s de*ath.

The Tragedy

On that fateful Friday morning, 6-year-old Jesse McCord Lewis woke up for school like every other school day, got ready, and before leaving for school, he enjoyed breakfast of his favorite sandwich, which included sausage, egg, and cheese, along with a cup of hot chocolate from a nearby deli.

He and his classmates arrived at school and took their seats as Ms. Soto began the day’s lessons. Then, out of nowhere, Adam Lanza, 20, began firing an assault rifle from the school’s front door. They didn’t hear anything until he was in Ms. Rousseau’s class across the hall, where he ki*lled everyone except one after hiding under the bodies of his dead classmates.

He then went into Jesse’s class and murd*ered Ms. Soto while she was attempting to divert his attention away from the area where the students had hidden before his rifle jammed. Jesse acted bravely after spotting an opportunity. He yelled to his classmates, who were huddled in a corner holding hands. As a result of his warning, six students were able to leave the classroom and find safety.

The victims

Investigators later told Jesse’s mother, Scarlett Lewis, about what happened inside the classroom. “He yelled, ‘Run!'” she remembered Jesse saying in his final moments. After reloading, Adam fired a headshot at him. In total, 11 students from Miss Soto’s class survived. Five more first-graders were hiding in a closet.

On December 14, 2012, twenty first-graders and six staff members were k*illed in one of the most horrific school shootings in American history when 20-year-old Adam Lanza forcibly entered the building.

Lanza had ki*lled his mother earlier that day before going to the school and carrying out the shooting. Lanza committed suicide inside the school as police officers arrived to investigate the incident.

Little Jesse’s bravery and ability to think on his feet as a six-year-old, on the other hand, will not be forgotten.Jesse died bravely while leading other children to safety.

When he heard the shots, he dashed into the corridor to help. We already knew this in our hearts because of the way he lived his life, fearlessly, courageously, and with strength, his family said at his funeral. “We take comfort in knowing what a brave young man he was.” His actions were consistent with the way he lived his life, which was to embrace everything with the zeal and faith of his favorite toy, a small toy soldier. Jesse’s bravery and ability to think quickly for a six-year-old boy, on the other hand, cannot be forgotten. Jesse bravely attempted to guide other children to safety before passing away.

Scarlett Lewis, Jesse’s mother

Jesse Lewis’ mother, Scarlett Lewis, recently pledged her support to the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation, an organization that encourages communities to prioritize love over resentment, gratitude over entitlement, and forgiveness and compassion over resentment.

The foundation was inspired by a message written on their kitchen chalkboard by Jesse, Lewis’s son, that included the words “nurturing,” “healing,” and “love.”
