The U.S. Bureau of Justice said that 120 prisoners were k*illed in U.S. prisons in 2018. More than 4,000 prisoners died of other causes while they were in jail that same year, so this number isn’t very high. A lot of prisoners die of cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses related to those. However, more and more prisoners are dying of unnatural causes, like being drunk or high on dr*ugs or committing suic*ide.
These stories are about prisoners who were ki*lled while they were in U.S. prisons.
Child Mole*ster Murd*ered by Teen Inmate

Officials at the prison said that Ayon beat Duran up by punching him in the face and upper torso. The prison guards told all the prisoners to get on the ground. All of the prisoners except Ayon did what they were told. Duran was still being attacked by Ayon. Police officers kept telling Ayon to stop the attack, but he didn’t listen. Then, prison guards stopped the 19-year-old’s attack with a pepper spray grenade.
Duran was taken to a nearby hospital, but died there from his injuries. He had already been in jail for five days when the thing happened. Ayon got medical care for minor injuries.
Duran was 35 years into a 55-year sentence for committing sexy and inappropriate acts with a child under 14 years old.
Ayon had been in prison since June 2018 and was serving a six-year sentence for second-degree robbery and use of a deadly weapon. He was charged with murder in connection with the death after a short investigation by prison staff. Ayon was also put in Administrative Segregation (Ad- Seg.).
Ayon admitted to manslaughter and was given a 17-year prison sentence in 2020.

County Jail Nurse Charged in Death of Inmate
On November 4, 2021, a nurse in a California county jail was charged with mu*rder. She was charged with involuntary manslaughter after she left a 24-year-old prisoner who was lying down in front of her.

When the prisoner was first taken into custody, she told the guards that she used heroin and had recently done so. For days, the prisoner had withdrawal symptoms, but he or she was never put on the withdrawal protocols that the jail follows. She passed away on November 11, 2019.
Her sentence could be up to four years in prison if she is found guilty of ki*lling inmate Elisa Serna in 2019. The event took place at the Las Colinas Detention Center in San Diego County. Pascua did nothing to save the prisoner’s life for at least an hour while he was lying unconscious on the floor.
