Sherri Papini, who in November 2016 infamously staged her own kidnapping, was released from federal prison last week and is now under community supervision.

According to federal prison records reviewed by PEOPLE, Papini, 41, resides in a Sacramento County residential reentry facility.

Papini, a mother of two, pretended to be kidnapped before pleading guilty to mail fraud and making false statements. In September of last year, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The then-34-year-old had been missing for 22 days prior to his Thanksgiving Day appearance alongside a highway in the Sacramento region. Papini initially told investigators she was violently kidnapped by two Hispanic women, who she claimed beat and tattooed her during her alleged captivity.

Papini later admitted to fabricating the entire story, revealing that she fled her Redding, California, home to stay with her then-boyfriend in Costa Mesa, California.

During her stay with her now-ex-boyfriend, Papini convinced him to brand her right shoulder with illegible letters and hit her with hockey pucks to induce bruising and make it appear as though she had been beaten by kidnappers, according to NBC, which was the first to report her release from prison.

Papini told her ex-boyfriend that she missed her children and wanted to return home after 22 days together. He said he dropped her off on the side of the road where she was later found.

After years of investigating her alleged kidnapping, Papini was arrested and charged in March of last year.

A month later, Papini admitted to lying about her kidnapping, telling a California courtroom that she was “deeply ashamed” and “sorry for the pain I’ve caused my family, my friends, and all the good people who needlessly suffered… I will spend the rest of my life making amends for my actions.”

Her husband Keith filed for divorce two days later.

Records indicate that Papini will be released from community confinement at the end of October..
