On October 21, 2006, the mother of Gary Helms Jr. of Marshall County, Alabama, called police to report that her son had ra*ped her. The 45-year-old mother was asleep on the couch of the family mobile home when her son attacked her, she stated.
The woman tried to get away from Helms Jr. but he held her down until he finished the attack.
Then 19-years-old, Helms Jr. confessed to police that he raped his mother as payback against his brother. The two had been arguing over a girlfriend, Helms Jr. told police.
Mother Defends Son; Changes Story
A rape charge was brought against Helms Jr. Other victims, like a 16-year-old and the mother of a young child, came forward after he was arrested. Both cases took place in different counties.
That’s when Helms Jr.’s mom spoke up for him. At that time, she told reporters that her son had raped her, but it was only because he was high.
She then said this about the claims of se*xual ass*ault against other people:
“Gary Dean is not a mean person.” No, he’s been charged with a 16-year-old crime. He went out with the 16-year-old they were supposed to talk about for eight months. He had her live with him. He lived with her mother, her mother, and her father. Helms’ mother said, “I don’t see how he can be charged or how it came up to him that he raped a 16-year-old now.”
“They’re bringing the charge up on him of the 4-year-old. That was proven that he never touched the 4-year-old. He done a lie detector test. And it come, from as far as I understand, it come back, he was not guilty of doing anything to this child,” said Helms’ mother.
She changed her story about being raped by her son afterward. She told the police that Helms Jr. did not rape her, but that they had se*x on their own free will.
Helms Pleaded Guilty to Incest
Due to the mother’s refusal to help with the investigation, Helms’ charges were dropped to incest. The charge against Helms Jr. was proven guilty in 2011 and he was given a 10-year prison sentence. However, the judge split the sentence in half, giving him credit for the 1046 days he spent in jail waiting for his trial to start and ordering that the rest of the sentence be served on probation. Helms Jr. had to sign up as a s*ex offender as well.
My Thoughts
How can someone make someone else have se*x with them, ESPECIALLY their own mother? What the hell is so cool about that? I’m glad I don’t get these things; my mind doesn’t work like most of the people whose minds I write about. Being such a jerk can’t make you feel good.
Don’t worry about the question, though. The mother defended him THREE times after he admitted to raping her and was charged with rape. It looks like the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree. That’s terrible that this happened to this woman and that she wasn’t able to handle her son’s serious crime. He would have been able to get the help he needed for both his mental illness and his drug addiction.
