Jemini Posey, a 21-year-old Indigenous woman and mother vanished without a trace on January 7, 2023. As days turned into weeks, the haunting echoes of another tragic loss clouded over the reservation, reigniting the flaming pain of a recent memory in the past.
Early life
Jemini Madeline Posey was born on October 11, 2002. She is a member of the Spirit Lake tribe. She grew up with her family in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota, within the Spirit Lake Dakota Reservation.
In 2024, Jemini was a resident of Fort Totten, North Dakota, where she lived in an apartment with her boyfriend and their 7 month old baby.
Disappearance of jemini
On January 3, 2024, Jemini Posey brought her belongings to her mother’s home in Devils Lake, North Dakota, saying she was moving back there, but ended up returning to Fort Totten shortly after.
On January 7, 2024, Jemini was last seen by her boyfriend leaving their apartment in Fort Totten, North Dakota.
Jemini never returned home and hasn’t been heard from since.
On January 10, 2024, Jemini’s sister got a message from Jemini’s boyfriends grandmother, saying that no one had seen her since the 7th.
On January 11, 2024, her mother filed a missing person’s report with the Fort Totten Police Department.
Investigation of case
Jemini’s boyfriend told police that she left home on January 7, saying a friend was picking her up and that she would be back later. He was playing video games at the time, and didn’t get up to see who picked her up.
On January 26, 2024, authorities stated that Jemini Posey may have been in the Grand Forks area on January 5th and 8th.
Several searches have been done with the help of K9s, but no clues as to her whereabouts have been found.
Jemini’s family says she would never disappear on her own without calling someone.
