On November 13, 2013, Miranda Barbour put an ad on Craigslist for “companionship” that cost $100. The ad got a response from Troy LaFerrara. She agreed to meet Troy at Susquehanna Valley Mall and drive six miles to Sunbury, PA. Miranda was 19 years old at the time.

Once they were in the car, Miranda told Troy that she had lied about her age and was really 16 years old. She says that Troy would still be alive today if he had broken their deal.

Troy said, “That’s okay,” and then he ran his hand up her thigh. Miranda thought the man was with a child.

Hidden in the back seat of the car was Miranda’s husband of only three weeks, Elytte Barbour. The couple moved from North Carolina to Pennsylvania not long ago. The couple planned to get rid of all child abusers and pedophiles, starting with Troy.

It took a lot of planning for this night. They talked about what they would do if Troy didn’t back out of the sexual encounter after saying she was 16 years old.

The couple really wanted to k*ill and probably would have anyway.

Miranda asked, “Did you see the stars tonight?” This was the signal for her husband to jump out of the back seat, tie a cord around Troy’s neck, and k*ill him.

The Mu*rder

Elytte jumped out of the back seat and tightly wrapped the cord around Troy’s neck. Miranda then took a kn*ife from behind her and stabbed the man more than 20 times. The 48-year-old man was kil*led, and Miranda and Elytte dumped his body in a backyard. The next day, it was found.

To get cleaning supplies like cleaning liquid, bleach wipes, and towels to clean the blood out of their Honda CR-V, Miranda and Elytte drove to a nearby market.

Police Trace Phone Call to Miranda Barbour

The last call that Troy made was tracked back to Miranda Barbour by the police. She said at first that she didn’t know the man or anything about the mu*rder, but she eventually admitted it and said that she and her 22-year-old husband just wanted to k*ill someone together to see how it felt.

Miranda Confesses to 23 Mur*ders

Investigators were shocked when Miranda admitted on Valentine’s Day to k*illing 23 other people while she was a member of a satanic cult. The police never proved what she said; they had doubts about it from the start. Police say she would have had to k*ill someone every few weeks or months since she was 13 years old to have ki*lled that many people.

Miranda’s Life

Miranda had behavior problems and used drugs as a child. Even when she was a young teen, heroin was her drug of choice. She hurt herself and went in and out of mental health facilities for most of her childhood. She says her uncle raped her when she was four years old. The uncle was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor and given 19 years in pri*son, even though he was never charged with a crime against Miranda. She also says that after joining the Satanic cult, she was raped by several men. All of these things, according to her father Sonny, led to the terrible outcome.

Barbour told Matthew Lysiak of Newsweek in 2014, before she was sentenced, that she didn’t feel bad about k*illing Troy, but she did feel bad about how she hurt her family.

“I felt no regret. None,” she says. “I didn’t hurt anyone who didn’t deserve it.”

Life in Pr*ison

Miranda and Elytte pleaded guilty to second-degree m*urder to avoid the death penalty. Both received life sentences without the possibility of parole.
