A 3-year-old was among two people ki*lled in a sh*ooting Monday evening in Lakeland, according to police.
Police said the sh*ooting happened at about 6:30 p.m. along Cambridge Cove Circle.
Officers found the 3-year-old dead at the scene. Robert Einzig, 23, was also injured with a guns*hot wound that was non-life-threatening in his lower body. Police said two others were in the car, including the 21-year-old mother of the 3-year-old and an infant 3-month-old girl, neither of whom was injured.
Police said the mother, Einzig, and the two children were visiting a friend in the area. When they tried to leave, a white Dodge Challenger blocked their vehicle and 22-year-old Kemarius Wilson exited the vehicle along with another unidentified man.
When Wilson and the unidentified man approached their vehicle, an altercation turned violent and guns*hots were exchanged between the two men and Einzig. The mother grabbed the infant child and fled, according to police.
After the sh*ooting, the unidentified man dropped Wilson – who was injured in the sh*ooting – off at the hospital, where he later die*d, according to police.
Police said they have reason to believe the people involved in this sho*oting knew each other.
Police are still searching for the unidentified driver of the white Dodge Challenger. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Lakeland Police Department.
