The family of a South Carolina man who said he was last seen 35 years ago now has closure on his disappearance.
The last photo the family of Michael Benjamin Davis had of him was a yearbook photo taken when he was 15 years old.
Investigators believe Davis died in 1990 or 1991, when he would have been in his mid-20s. They also believe his de*ath may have been a h*omicide.
However, any evidence in the case was lost in the years his remains laid in a field in Greenwood, Indiana.
Laurie Pineda, Davis’s cousin, said the discovery of his remains has given her and the rest of the family closure.
“We may not know what Michael’s last days were or how he came to his demise, but we know it’s him now, and our family can rest assured,” she said. “We aren’t wondering and searching or worrying anymore, so for that we’re deeply grateful to everyone.”
Othram’s laboratory in Texas developed the comprehensive DNA profile that led to the testing of Michael’s sister to confirm the identification of his remains.
While DNA testing can cost up to $10,000 per sample, the podcast company Audiochuck covered the cost in this specific case.
