After being reported missing more than three months ago, 35 year old Theodore Egge has been found de*ceased.

The discovery came on Saturday when authorities responded to two calls about a de*ceased person in a wooded area in the Town of Athelstane in Marinette County. Officers located and identified the body as belonging to Theodore, who was reported missing from the area on January 13, 2023.

No foul play is suspected at this time, though Egge’s case remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Disappearance of Theodore Egge

35-year-old Theodore Egge was last seen in Athelstane, Wisconsin on January 13, 2023. He disappeared after asking someone for directions when his car ran out of gas.

On January 12, 2023, Theodore Egge was captured on surveillance camera around 10:45 pm getting gas at Kwik Trip, a convenience store in Crivitz, Wisconsin. He was driving his roommate’s vehicle at the time.

On January 13, 2023, Egge was driving through the town of Athelstane when his car ran out of gas. Around 10:30 am, a man gave him half a gallon of gas and told him to head to the gas station up the road so they could fill it up the rest of the way, but for some reason Egge didn’t follow him.

Around 12:00 pm, Egge was seen walking on Benson Lake Road in Athelstane when he asked a resident for directions to Boat Landing 7 Road where he was living at the time. This is the last verified sighting of Egge.

Theodore Egge never returned home and hasn’t been heard from since.

On January 14, 2023, his roommate filed a missing person’s report with the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office when his vehicle, a blue 2007 Jeep Liberty, was found abandoned on Benson Lake Road in Athelstane. His roommate’s cell phone, which Theodore had been using at the time, was also found left inside the vehicle.

Investigation

Theodore Egge didn’t have a working cell phone with him when he disappeared, and was not familiar with the area.

On January 16, 2023, authorities conducted a search in the area with the help of volunteers, K9 units, and firefighters, but found no signs of Egge.

Based off witness accounts, authorities posted an update on February 6, 2023, saying they believe Theodore was last seen walking north on the snowmobile trail crossing Bennet Road heading toward Benson Lake Road.

According to his family, Egge was suffering from a mental illness but was not on medication at the time of his disappearance.
