A 3-year-old girl in California died after her mother allegedly locked both of them inside a car during a 104-degree heat wave.
It happened on Sept. 6 around 4 p.m.
When officials arrived, they found the 3-year-old, identified as Ily Elizabeth Ruiz, alongside her mother, 41-year-old Sandra Hernandez, unconscious in the car.
A family member pulled Ily out of the vehicle and gave her CPR before first responders arrived.
Ily and her mother were both taken to a hospital where the 3-year-old was pronounced dead.
A woman who identified herself as the great aunt of Hernandez said that the 41-year-old mother locked herself and her daughter in a car.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect.
A GoFundMe was created for the family to pay for Ily’s funeral expenses.
